It's shaping up to be a big week for Warner Bros. with the final Harry Potter movie hitting screens, and the recent releases of the posters for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (more on that later), and The Dark Knight Rises.
For some reason, I'm a little unsure about TDKR based on the cast and characters, and it's going to be hard for Christopher Nolan to top himself after Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. At first sight, the teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises quelled some of my concerns because it's just awesome to look at, but even those feelings of calm started to wear off because I felt like I've seen this all before.
When I looked at the poster again, I could not help but be reminded of Inception. Apparently, either Nolan or the ad agency responsible for promoting his films really love monochromatic colors and skyscrapers. Add to the fact that pretty much every supporting actor from Inception has a role in TDKR, I can't help but wonder if it's going to be a sequel to that film instead of one for his Batman franchise.
Then again, Inception copied The Dark Knight, so maybe this is just Nolan's MO. You can't blame a guy for having his own style, and there are worse films TDKR can be compared to than Inception. I'm still cautiously optimistic about the final Batman film, but Nolan has not let me down yet...
