My Half-Hearted Oscar Picks: 2011

Ever since the Academy installed the Dark Knight Rule, my interest level has dropped, and the fact that I didn't even put together my annual Oscar predictions post should be an indicator about how much I care about this year's ceremony. Despite my apathy, tradition is tradition so here are my picks:

Best Picture: The King's Speech
Best Director: Tom Hooper, The King's Speech
Best Leading Actor: Colin Firth, The King's Speech
Best Leading Actress: Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Best Supporting Actor: Christian Bale, The Fighter
Best Supporting Actress: Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Best Original Screenplay: Christopher Nolan, Inception
Best Adapted Screenplay: Aaron Sorkin, The Social Network
Best Animated Feature: Toy Story 3

The funny thing is I still haven't seen The King's Speech, but it seems like it's riding a wave of domination as of late to overtake early favorite The Social Network. Since I don't have a horse in the Best Picture race (I was pulling for The Town), I'm OK with a King's win. Honestly, the only category I care about this year is Best Leading Actress but that has more to do with my undying love for Natalie Portman.

I'm probably going to check out the awards show, although I'm not as interested in seeing Catwoman and Tristan as the Academy thinks I am, but I'm sure they'll be more entertaining than Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. The Oscars just need to call up Ellen and NPH now for next year because that's an awards show worth checking out.
